Mirwaiz addressed gathering engaged with the trade of medicine

Srinagar, 28 April (Mirwaiz Manzil): In connection with his ongoing antidrug addiction and social reform drive Head of Muthida Majlis Ulema and chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Expressed deep anguish over the increasing drug menace among the youth of Kashmir and sought cooperation from  all people  and agencies associated with the trade of sale and distribution of medicine and drugs in Kashmir. Mirwaiz was addressing a gathering of people engaged in the trade of medicine as well as the members of differnt chemist and druggist Associations. He stressed that in order to curb drug addiction it was necessary to curtail the easy acess to drugs and medicines used for this purpose and completely do away with the practise of selling drugs without prescription.
Mirwaiz also expressed his dismay that the serious issue of sale of spurious and substandard drugs, ever on increase in the valley,was not paid any heed to by the government nor  did the Govt. have any  effective drug control policy in this regard. He said continious reports in media about the sale and cosumption of fake and substandard drugs specially in Govt. run hospitals was a matter of great concern.
Addressing the gathering,Mirwaiz said that our young generation was getting entrapped in drug addiction, drinking, gambling and other immoral activities and it was the duty of all sections of the society including persons associated with drug trade to understand their responsibility and duty towards the society. He said that these days’ complaints about the supply of fake drugs, the nexus between doctors and medical represtatives , providing drugs without proper prescription and unnecessary clinical tests at the behest of unscrupulous doctors have become common practise  and in such circumstances the cooperation of people engaged with medical profession and supply of medicines was very essential to stop this trend.
On this occasion members associated with the medical trade assured Mirwaiz of their fullest Cooperation and gave valuable suggestions. Disclosing that a number of government and other agencies were involved in the racket of fake drug supply, they said that there was no effective drug control system to check all this and a number of irregularities were going on in many Hospitals of the state. Mirwaiz addressed gathering at Zoonimar, says Drug abuse will impact our struggle

Srinagar, Apr 20 (Mirwaiz Manzil): Continuing its anti-drug abuse campaign, Chairman Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday said eradication of social evils from the society is a religious obligation. He also urged people to stay away from elections calling it as a political drama enacted by New Delhi.
 Mirwaiz started his second phase of anti-drug abuse campaign from Eidgah and the adjoining areas of old City. According to a statement, Mirwaiz while addressing a gathering at Zoonimar, Srinagar, said eradication of social evils from the society is the social and religious obligation.
 “Everybody has to play their role in eradicating social crimes especially the drug abuse, which is eating up our future generations,” he told a gathering at Zoonimar. Mirwaiz said degradation of social and moral values in the society would have negative fallout on the freedom struggle. “People can’t turn a blind eye towards the social issues and problems faced by the society at large”.
 Mirwaiz said Kashmiris were passing through testing times for the past two decades. “Despite that, we somehow overlook our collective social responsibilities,” he said adding the freedom struggle has now transferred to the third generation. “Along with political responsibilities, the young generation should also come forward to fulfill their social responsibilities,” he said.
  The local Imams, youth and elders of the area promised full cooperation to Mirwaiz. “A social reform committee was also formed on the occasion. The committee would keep an eye on social evils and at the same time start a campaign for their eradication in their local area,” a MMU handout said. Youth raised pro-freedom and anti-election slogans on the occasion.

Impressive Seerat Programme held in Srinagar

Srinagar, April 17 (Mirwaiz Manzil): An impressive Seerat Programme on the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was today held at historical Educational Institute Nusrat-ul-Islam Higher Secondary School Srinagar. The function was chaired by All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman and the president of Anjuman Nasratul Islam Mirwaiz Dr Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq.
The function was attended by dozens of students belonging to various Educational Institutes of the Valley. Students from Green Land School, Bilalaliya Educations Institute, Muslim Public School, Islamia High School Bota Kadal, Green Valley Educationa
The first position was bagged by the student of Bilaliya Institute Ahmad Mustafa, whereas Haroon Ahmad from R.P School and Qayooma Aslam from Muslim Public School bagged second and third positions respectively.
Meanwhile a student from Bilaliya namely Kubra was given a special Award.
Speaking on the occasion, Mirwaiz Dr Molvi Umar Farooq said the path shown to the Muslim Ummah by our beloved Nabi (SAW) is the only guarantee for the prosperity and progress of mankind.
While terming Islam as the complete way of life, Mirwaiz stated that along with other responsibilities in Islam, a Muslim should find all the solutions within the Islamic jurisprudence rather than looking in to the others religion.
Mirwaiz said despite a Muslim majority and a land of Saints and Awliyas, a large number of youth of the Valley nowadays unfortunately have got entangled in the menace of Drugs and waywardness.
Mirwaiz said the need of the hour is to get united to fight immoralities within our society. Appealing parents for their support towards the anti-immorality drive Mirwaiz said parents should also come forward and should keep an eye on their wards.

Mirwaiz kick-starts anti-drug campaign from Shaher-e-Khaas

Srinagar, Apr 13: Kashmir’s head priest and Chairman Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema(MMU) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday kick-started anti-drug campaign from Kathidarwaza locality of old City amid active support of locals and Masjid Imams.
 People from various walks of life including members from Sikh community, and youth extended full support to Mirwaiz to “eradicate social evils, especially growing drug abuse.” The locals raised slogans against the drug abuse soon after the head priest arrived in Kathidarwaza locality.
 Mirwaiz, along with the locals visited Badamwari for an on-the-spot inspection of the reports of drug abuse from there. “It was an overwhelming support from locals, Masjid Imams and also from the youth... Kathidarwaza is known as the hub of drug abuse. Drug peddlers reach the area in the evening and start supplying kinds of drugs like Codeine, Corex, Alprex tablets, etc to youth. So we started our anti-drug campaign from here,” he said.
  “Imams of atleast 12 Masjids extended full support to us. We also got support from the NGOs and a good number of local youth besides elders,” he said. “We marched towards Badamwari Garden to check the veracity of reports that youth were taking drugs inside the park. We appreciated the steps taken by the local Mohalla committees there that they don’t allow couples in the park. Only families are allowed, which is a good sign.”

 “According to the experts, it takes at least 40-days to treat an addict. We urge the parents of the youth who have fallen prey to drug abuse to deal normally with their children and to take them to nearby drug de-addiction centers for treatment,” Mirwaiz, who also heads a Hurriyat faction said.
 He said MMU will get in touch with various pharmaceutical companies to ensure that drugs like Corex, Codeine and Aplrex aren’t sold without medical prescription. “A good thing is that society has started waking up to end the drug abuse which is eating up our future generations,” he said.
 At a MMU meeting at Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal, Mirwaiz recently announced to start anti-drug abuse campaign. Referring to a study by the United Nations International Drug Control Program (UNIDCP), Mirwaiz stated that 70000 youth are drug addicts in Kashmir of which 4000 are women.
 Mirwaiz said the drive against drug-abuse is a long-drawn battle. “Our next program will be at Malkha, which is also known as a safe haven for drug peddlers,” he said.

And those, who have become addicts, need to be taken to drug de-addiction centers for treatment,” Mirwaiz said. He said many NGOs also extended a helping hand to eradicate the drug abuse.

Daylong meeting of religious scholars held in Mirwaiz Manzil

Srinagar, April 06: (Mirwaiz Manzil): Mutahida Majlis Ulema (MMU), an amalgam of religious scholars of Kashmir led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday held a day long threadbare deliberations over the growing immorality, drug abuse and other social evils in Kashmir at the historical Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal.
The seminar witnessed participation of more than 300 religious clerics, leading social activists and physiologists of valley.
Quoting the figures over the growing immorality and drug abuse in the society, the subject experts stated that there are more than 60,000 cases of drug addiction reported from valley and the number of people suffering from depression is 1,20,000.
Experts while taking everyone by surprise claimed that according to UNO report, in 1987- there were 17000 cases of Mental depresssion in valley while as the number has jumped to 100000 in 2008. In 2012, the number was 1,20,000.
Experts also stated that due to the growing drug menace in Kashmir society, the suicidal trends specially among youth are touching soaring heights every day.
During his address, Mirwaiz said that besides striving for the settlement of Kashmir issue, the serious situation that is emerging due to growing drug menace in valley cannot be undermined.
“Alcohol and drug addiction has become order of the day in our society and the same needs serious remedial measures,” said the Huriyat (M) chairman. He added that it is not the time to deliver lectures about the growing immoral activities in Kashmir but the need of the hour is to act on the ground.
“There must be individual and collective efforts for the eradication of drug addiction and growing crimes here.”
Mirwaiz while cautioning parents about the outcome of the situation if not stopped at an earliest said that the way parents show concern in equipping children with modern education;  moral and religious values must be prioritized so that they could see a better society in future.
Mirwaiz also asked religious clerics to play important role in eradication of drug menace from valley. He said that mosques could  play a vital role in making people aware about the dangerous trends in the society at large. He urged the Imams and khateebs not to only deliver sermons but start  organising Mohalla committes to keep a check in their respective areas.
On the occasion around 100 youth voulenteered to work with local imans on eradicating social evils.
