Srinagar, Apr 20 (Mirwaiz Manzil): Continuing its anti-drug abuse campaign,
Chairman Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday said eradication of
social evils from the society is a religious obligation. He also urged people
to stay away from elections calling it as a political drama enacted by New
Delhi.
 Mirwaiz started his
second phase of anti-drug abuse campaign from Eidgah and the adjoining areas of
old City. According to a statement, Mirwaiz while addressing a gathering at
Zoonimar, Srinagar, said eradication of social evils from the society is the
social and religious obligation.
 “Everybody has to
play their role in eradicating social crimes especially the drug abuse, which
is eating up our future generations,” he told a gathering at Zoonimar. Mirwaiz
said degradation of social and moral values in the society would have negative
fallout on the freedom struggle. “People can’t turn a blind eye towards the
social issues and problems faced by the society at large”.
 Mirwaiz said
Kashmiris were passing through testing times for the past two decades. “Despite
that, we somehow overlook our collective social responsibilities,” he said
adding the freedom struggle has now transferred to the third generation. “Along
with political responsibilities, the young generation should also come forward
to fulfill their social responsibilities,” he said.
  The local Imams,
youth and elders of the area promised full cooperation to Mirwaiz. “A social
reform committee was also formed on the occasion. The committee would keep an
eye on social evils and at the same time start a campaign for their eradication
in their local area,” a MMU handout said. Youth raised pro-freedom and
anti-election slogans on the occasion.
